The History and Venue of War in the Woods

War in the Woods has earned its reputation as the wildest and most exciting no-prep race in the country [1]. This heart-pounding event takes place at the historic Brown County Dragway, a venue steeped in racing history. Opened in 1963, this drag strip in rural central Indiana stands as the oldest in the Midwest [2] [3].

The track’s unique features contribute to the event’s thrilling atmosphere. Its narrow lanes, separated by a grass strip, and bumpy surface challenge even the most skilled drivers [2]. The facility’s intimate setting, with spectators lining the track, creates an electric vibe reminiscent of a secluded street race [2].

Despite its age, Brown County Dragway has embraced modern technology. The track uses up-to-date, accurate equipment to monitor races, ensuring fair competition while maintaining its outlaw spirit [3]. This blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge tech makes War in the Woods a truly one-of-a-kind experience for racers and fans alike.
